Fabio Borini announces retirement from football after a career spanning Italy and England
Italian forward Fabio Borini, a former Liverpool player, has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a long career that spanned several clubs in England, Italy, and Türkiye.
Borini confirmed his retirement through a post on social media on Wednesday, writing: "I want to thank that kid who never stopped believing. The man I have become today will continue to believe in the next opportunity, this time without a ball at my feet, but with the same faith. Always."
Borini joined Liverpool in the summer of 2012 from Roma, making 20 appearances in his first season, which was affected by injury, scoring two goals. In the 2013-2014 season, he was loaned to Sunderland, before returning to Liverpool and featuring in another 18 matches, during which he scored one goal, under the management of Brendan Rodgers.
Borini has completed his permanent transfer to Sunderland in 2015, having started his English football career with Chelsea, before also playing for Swansea, Parma, and Roma. He later wore the shirts of AC Milan, Hellas Verona, Fatih Karagümrük, Sampdoria, and Salford City.
On the international stage, Borini represented the Italian national team at various age levels, and he also played one international match with the senior team.
