João Cancelo: Ronaldo is a symbol of Portugal and things will end in the best way
João Cancelo, a player for FC Barcelona and the Portugal national team, has said that Cristiano Ronaldo remains the captain of the national team, its symbol, and the best player in the history of Portugal, following their victory over Norway by two goals to one in the UEFA Nations League.
Cancelo said: "The coach and Mr. Pedro Proença will talk about this matter. But as Bruno Fernandes said earlier, Cristiano is our captain, he is the symbol of our national team, he is the best player Portugal has produced, and things will certainly end in the best way."
He added: "The important thing here is to achieve these four victories. I think we all did a great job, and he is also among them. Now we have to enjoy, and in November we will be here again."
Speaking about his goal against Norway, he said: "I was in a good position, and Nuno Mendes has a very strong throw-in. When I saw the ball bounce for the first time off the ground, it was like instinct, so I shot, and thank God it went well. I scored a great goal."
He added: "By the way, almost all my goals with the national team are beautiful. I don't remember them all, but perhaps this is one of the most beautiful. I can't say it's the most beautiful, because I don't remember the other goals."
Wrapping up the four victories and the beginning of a new era with the national team, Cancelo explained: "Alongside our ability to quickly absorb the ideas of the new coach, I believe there should also be a bit of luck, and luck is something you also seek. All my teammates in this camp, whether they played more or less, and despite the limited training, I think we played four matches in 11 or 12 days. We managed to absorb the ideas well and transfer them onto the pitch. I believe we were the better team again today and deserved the win."
