Davide: Real Madrid have lost the best player in his position, my dream is to coach Real Madrid
David Ancelotti, the head coach of Lille, spoke in an extensive interview with Spanish newspaper 'AS' about Real Madrid and several issues related to the royal club.
Davide spoke about the impact of Toni Kroos's departure on Real Madrid: "You have lost something that you will never get back. Real Madrid has lost the best player in the world in his position. You can't say you need another player like Kroos, because there is no other player like him. Kroos was the master of the game, he controlled its rhythm, and the game was played the way he wanted it. He was the one who decided, and he was essential because he managed the pace of the game. On top of that, he ran, he was a player who covered 11 kilometers in a match, and he knew how to defend and had tactical awareness."
He continued: "I loved seeing him when he played in the number 6 position. But he didn't like to get into second balls and challenges much, and he preferred to play as a number 8, because the dirty work was left to the number 6 player. Regarding Real Madrid's playing dynamics, losing Tony was very complicated. The team suddenly lost a lot of things; I talked to him a lot about football because he is a very smart person. He challenges you and makes you think, and he always has an interesting perspective on things. He made you a better coach. It was a pity that he left."
When asked about the possibility of replacing Kroos with a player like Rodri, Davide replied: "Rodri can play anywhere. He is a player... but you shouldn't go looking for a copy of Tony. Real Madrid will find their balance. With Rodri or without him, they will still be a contender until the end, as always. In the end, when it comes to the decisive moment, Real Madrid is always there."
He continued about José Mourinho taking over at Real Madrid: "The recent history of Real Madrid shows why Mourinho is the perfect coach at this moment. He is a lover of Real Madrid, and he has a lot of motivation. This is something I experienced with my father. Reaching this stage of your career and getting this opportunity is like living again; this enthusiasm will transfer to the players. I believe he is the ideal coach right now."
Davide has revealed his previous relationship with Portuguese coach José Mourinho, saying: "I have followed his career, and I even interviewed him for my coaching course. He was always nice and friendly to me, even when we met as opponents; sometimes I see myself reflected in him. Like him, I did not have a great career as a professional player, and I also studied physical education. Mourinho's methodology was very innovative when he started, especially in terms of training, and it must be acknowledged that, in his own way, Mourinho changed football. And I am talking about football, not his personality; everyone knows that. He is a winning coach."
Speaking about his time at Real Madrid: "Real Madrid left a mark on my career. I arrived at the club as a fitness coach, then I was an assistant for four seasons. At Real Madrid, with this level of pressure, time feels different. It's simply about knowing that every match is the most important match. There are no secrets. This level of demands stays with you forever."
Regarding the possibility of his father Carlo Ancelotti returning to Real Madrid in the future, he said: "I hope so. He has four years with Brazil, and I don't know what will happen after that, but his relationship with Real Madrid is very special."
He concluded about the possibility of coaching Real Madrid in the future: "It depends on whether I deserve it or not. It does not depend solely on Real Madrid, but on me and what I can achieve in my career. However, I am not thinking about that right now, because I have a wonderful and great project here in Lille. Real Madrid is everyone's dream, and of course, it is my dream too. Every coach who reaches Real Madrid has a status that I do not have yet, and I know that I have to earn it. It is a status that I must build for myself by winning matches. We can talk here for three days about ideas and philosophy, but what matters is winning."
