Giroud reveals why his wife refused his move to Dortmund

French striker Olivier Giroud has revealed the reason behind his failed transfer to Borussia Dortmund in January 2018, when he was looking for a new club due to limited appearances with Arsenal, in a bid to secure his place in the France squad for the FIFA World Cup.

Olivier Giroud, during his appearance on a show on "Canal+" to celebrate his 40th birthday, explained that a transfer to Germany was indeed being considered, but his wife refused to leave England at that time.

According to statements reported by "Goal", Olivier Giroud's wife, Jen, gave birth to their third child at the end of January, and therefore she was not ready to move to a new country. Giroud said about her reaction: "She told me: forget it."

The French forward added that his wife was more explicit about the destination of Borussia Dortmund specifically, telling him: "If you take me to another country now, to Germany and above all to Dortmund, I will kill you."

In the end, Giroud did not move to Borussia Dortmund, but stayed in England and transferred from Arsenal to Chelsea during the winter transfer window of 2018, continuing his career in the Premier League before experiencing other challenges later.
