Okafor announces retirement from Switzerland under Yakin

Switzerland's Noah Okafor, a forward for Leeds United, has announced his decision not to represent his national team again as long as Murat Yakin is in charge, stating that his decision comes due to a breakdown of trust between him and the coach.

Okafor said: "This decision is extremely difficult for me. There has been nothing greater for me than playing with Switzerland, but under the current circumstances, I can no longer continue."

He added: "I don't want special treatment, all I want is mutual respect and trust, but I don't see that these foundations are in place for the coming years."

Reports indicate that Okafor's decision is not related to the number of minutes he has played, as the player himself confirmed that the issue lies in matters that occurred behind the scenes, pointing out that trust has been damaged and some promises have not been kept. Okafor has participated in 26 international matches with Switzerland.

The Swiss Football Association has expressed its respect for the player's decision, wishing him success with his club. Murat Yakin has been leading the Switzerland national team since 2021.
