Kulusevski nears return to Sweden national team after long absence

Dejan Kulusevski, the Tottenham Hotspur player, is close to returning to the Sweden national team after regaining his physical fitness and recently returning to full team training with his club, following a long absence due to a complicated knee injury.

Dejan Kulusevski has missed the entire 2025-2026 season with Tottenham and the Sweden national team, before returning to training. However, the coaching staff led by Roberto De Zerbi and the club's medical team are handling his return with caution, especially after he faced a minor issue last week.

Graham Potter, the head coach of Sweden, said in statements to SVT: "He is very close indeed. I am very impressed with the way he has dealt with his injury."

He added: "Of course, we have to be careful with him. I hope he comes with us, but we need to talk to Dejan and Tottenham first. It cannot be emphasized enough how important it is to have him with the national team."

Potter stated: "He is extremely important for the team. We love his character and potential; he is a world-class player, and having him with us helps us greatly."

Graham Potter is expected to announce the Sweden squad in the coming weeks ahead of matches against Romania on September 25 and Poland on September 28 during the international break, opening the door for Dejan Kulusevski to return to the national team for the first time since his injury absence.
