Moroccan reports: Egyptian FA seeks Mahmoud Bentayg's commitment to represent the Pharaohs

Reports from Morocco reveal that the Egyptian Football Association is reaching out to Zamalek SC's left-back, Mahmoud Bentayg, to persuade him to change his sporting nationality and represent the Egyptian national team in the near future.

According to reports, Egyptian officials are looking to obtain Mahmoud Bentayg's approval first, before starting the official procedures and referring the player's file to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), in order to submit a request to change the national team he is eligible to represent.

Mahmoud Bentayg holds Moroccan nationality and has previously appeared for Morocco's national teams. He currently plays for Zamalek SC, with whom he has a contract that extends until 2028.

Mahmoud Bentayg has sparked controversy following Zamalek SC's match against Abu Qir for Fertilizers, after he was seen in a video expressing his frustration at not receiving the Man of the Match award, stating: "I didn't win it because I'm not Egyptian... it's clear." This incident has generated widespread reactions in Egypt.

No official announcement has been made yet by the Egyptian Football Association or the player regarding negotiations to change his sporting nationality. The player's transfer to represent another national team remains contingent upon meeting the requirements of FIFA regulations and obtaining the necessary approvals.
