French clubs benefit from an exceptional rule known as the 'joker', allowing them to make a new signing after the summer transfer window has closed.

Under this rule, each club is allowed to sign only one player from another French club, whether through a permanent transfer or on loan, provided the deal is domestic only.

The 'Joker' window remains open for French clubs until the start of the winter transfer window, giving them the opportunity to strengthen their squads or compensate for absences and injuries after the end of the transfer market.

This rule is an exception to the transfer market closure, as it does not allow clubs to sign players from outside France during this period.
