Another blow for Marseille as Højbjerg injures himself with Denmark
Olympique Marseille have suffered another setback during the international break as midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg has picked up an injury during his country's match against Wales on Sunday.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg left the pitch just 10 minutes into the match after feeling pain following a run with the ball. He sat on the ground and requested to be substituted, without having been involved in any contact or challenge from a Welsh player.
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg was wearing the captain's armband for Denmark before handing it over to Joachim Andersen, the former Lyon player, and then left the pitch to be replaced by Andreas Skov Olsen. The nature of his injury and the duration of his absence are still unclear, pending medical examinations.
The injury crisis at Marseille continues during the international break, as the club has lost the services of Derek Cornelius, Hamad Abdelli, and Amine Gouiri, along with Mamady. This adds to the struggles of the team, which currently sits second from bottom in Ligue 1 after five rounds.
Marseille played a friendly match against Montpellier on Saturday, which ended in a 0-1 defeat. The match took place behind closed doors at the Francis Turcan Stadium in Martigues, and coach Bruno Genesio used the opportunity to give several young players a chance in the absence of international players.
