Džeko announces end of international career with Bosnia-Herzegovina

Bosnia-Herzegovina star Edin Džeko has announced that the match against Sweden on October 2, 2026, will be his last appearance for the national team, bringing an end to an international career that has lasted nearly two decades.

The match will take place as part of the UEFA Nations League 2026-27, specifically for Group 4 of League B. Bosnia-Herzegovina will host the Swedish national team on October 2, before facing Poland three days later.

Edin Džeko has announced his decision following his participation with Bosnia-Herzegovina in the FIFA World Cup 2026, where he was the captain of the national team during the tournament in which the team played four matches, before being eliminated by the United States in the Round of 32.

Edin Džeko, born on March 17, 1986, in Sarajevo, played his first international match in 2007, and since then he has become one of the most prominent players in the history of Bosnian football, serving as captain and all-time top scorer for the national team.

Džeko has reached 162 international appearances following his latest appearance against the United States in the FIFA World Cup, while he tops the national team's scoring list with 73 goals.

Edin Džeko played a pivotal role in Bosnia-Herzegovina's qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026, finishing the qualifiers with 6 goals, before participating in the finals and leading the national team in its second-ever appearance at the World Cup.
