Maguire: There was no deliberate handball, fortunately the goal was awarded to us

Harry Maguire, Manchester United's defender, spoke about the controversy surrounding the own goal that gave his team the lead against Ipswich Town during the match that ended with the Red Devils winning 5-2 in the second round of the Premier League.

Harry Maguire spoke about the incident that resulted in the goal being awarded after a change in the direction of his shot towards the net, with questions surrounding a handball: "I haven't seen the incident again, so I can't really comment, but I know it was a close call."

Manchester United defender added: "There was certainly no deliberate handball, but I don't think the ball touched my fingers."

He continued: "In fact, I shot the ball just wide of the goal, so I think it will unfortunately be counted as an own goal, but maybe that was the reason it was given."

"If the goal had been credited to me, it would have been disallowed, and that is the rule at the moment, but fortunately things went in our favor, and I believe we deserved to win, along with a bit of luck."
