Early Doubts Surround Konaté at Real Madrid After First Appearance
Ibrahima Konaté has raised some doubts within Real Madrid after his first official appearance in the team's 2-1 victory over Espanyol in La Liga.
Ibrahima Konaté has joined Real Madrid during the current summer transfer window on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool. He started in his first official match with the royal team against Espanyol.
The French defender displayed strength in challenges and aerial duels, but he made some positioning errors, particularly during the first half. He was also not in the best position for the goal scored by Espanyol.
Spanish newspaper "AS" pointed out that Konaté still needs to develop, noting that he was not entirely convincing when handling the ball, and that his first appearance was not enough to secure a spot in the starting lineup.
With Dean Henderson's position largely secured, Ibrahima Konaté faces competition from German Antonio Rüdiger, as his performance against Espanyol did not help him secure the spot in his favor.
AS described Konate's start as acceptable, but it included some mistakes that could raise doubts for coach José Mourinho, who emphasized that Real Madrid players must continuously prove their worth to participate and compete for their positions.
Jose Mourinho's decisions regarding Konaté will become clear during the match against Real Sociedad on Wednesday evening.
