Tottenham Hotspur has announced the appointment of Dutch defender Mickey van de Ven as the new captain of the team, replacing Argentine Cristian Romero, who left the club this summer.

Roberto De Zerbi has decided to appoint Van de Ven as captain, given the great confidence the defender enjoys within the team, having previously worn the armband on several occasions last season.

Spanish player Pedro Porro will be the first vice-captain, part of a leadership group that also includes Ben Davies, James Maddison, and Archie Gray, in a move aimed at distributing leadership roles within the team's dressing room.

Mickey van de Ven is 25 years old and joined Tottenham in the summer of 2023 from Wolfsburg. He has quickly become one of the essential elements in the team's defense, and he previously captained Volendam during his career.

The appointment of the Dutch defender as captain marks the beginning of a new phase for Tottenham under De Zerbi, following Romero's departure and the restructuring of the team's leadership in preparation for the new season.
