João Pedro Set to Extend Chelsea Contract Until 2032
Brazilian forward João Pedro is close to renewing his contract with Chelsea until 2032, a move that reflects his status within the team's project and the trust coach Xabi Alonso has in him.
The Athletic has confirmed that the 24-year-old forward is close to signing his new deal with Chelsea, which will grant him a substantial salary increase, along with a clause allowing for a potential contract extension in the future.
João Pedro has gained the confidence of Xabi Alonso, responding with a remarkable display during the pre-season preparations for the new season, having scored 7 goals in 5 matches, along with providing an assist.
The Brazilian striker scored 23 goals and provided 6 assists during last season, in his first season with one of the top six clubs, which attracted the interest of several major European teams.
Among the clubs interested in signing him was Barcelona, which inquired about the possibility of acquiring him last May, considering him as an option to strengthen their attack during the current transfer window.
Chelsea has set João Pedro's price at €100 million and is determined to keep him, effectively removing the player from Barcelona's plans as a replacement for Julián Álvarez after the Catalan club confirmed that he would not be leaving Stamford Bridge. The forward is now close to signing a new contract with the Blues.
