Chelsea has officially announced the signing of Spanish defender Pep Chavarria from Rayo Vallecano, as the team gears up for the new season. The 28-year-old defender has signed a contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

Shafaria stated in comments reported by Chelsea's official website: "I am very excited to get started, this is a dream for me, as Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in the world," emphasizing his readiness to work hard and help the team achieve success.

Shafaria started his career with his hometown club UE Figueres in the Spanish fourth division, making his first-team debut at the age of 18, before moving to UE Olot in 2018, where he became a key player and one of the standout performers of the team.

After making 52 appearances with Olot, Chavarria transferred to Real Zaragoza in August 2020, and played his first professional match the following month against Las Palmas, before spending two seasons with the club in the Spanish second division.

The Spanish defender arrived in La Liga through Rayo Vallecano in August 2022, becoming a key figure in the team over the past four years. He contributed to the club finishing eighth in La Liga in the last two seasons.

Shafaria participated in 44 matches last season, helping Rayo Vallecano reach the UEFA Europa Conference League final, before losing to Crystal Palace. He has now moved to Chelsea on a contract that runs until 2031.
