Araujo's Buyout Clause Revealed in Liverpool Deal
Reports have revealed the behind-the-scenes details of Ronald Araujo's departure from Barcelona to Liverpool, on loan until the end of next season (June 2027) with a permanent purchase option next summer.
According to Spanish newspaper "Marca," Barcelona coach Hans Flick directly informed Araujo last Tuesday that he would not be among the starting players in his lineup, preferring Pau Koubarsi, Eric Garcia, and Gerard Martin, in addition to having Christensen.
The newspaper reported that the Uruguayan defender requested German coach Hansi Flick to ensure his continued participation, but Flick was unable to provide that assurance. He advised the player to seek a new opportunity outside of Barcelona.
The journalist concluded that Liverpool's interest emerged on Wednesday, before they could reach an agreement with the player and then with Barcelona. The English club will cover the player's entire salary during the loan period, while the contract includes a non-mandatory purchase option worth €55 million.
Araujo has seen his role diminish significantly in recent years with the Catalan club, and he is set to undergo a medical examination at Liverpool tomorrow, Sunday, before officially signing with the English club.
