Ahmed Hegazi Announces Retirement from Football
Egyptian defender Ahmed Hegazi announced on Saturday the end of his professional football career, after years filled with experiences and achievements, particularly during his time in Saudi Arabia. Hegazi confirmed via his official account on X that the decision to retire pertains to his playing career, while his passion for football will remain present in the upcoming phase. The player's retirement comes after a distinguished career with Al-Ittihad and then Neom, where he left a clear mark thanks to his vast experience and leadership qualities both on the pitch and in the locker room. A source indicated that there is a plan to utilize Ahmed Hegazi's expertise within the administrative staff of Neom in the near future. Discussions are underway regarding the possibility of the former international defender joining the club's administrative and technical structure, aiming to benefit from his extensive experience and leadership impact among the players. Neom's management is seeking to enhance stability within the team by bringing in individuals with significant football experience, making Hegazi a candidate for a new role within the club. Neom announced last May the end of its contractual relationship with the Egyptian defender after two seasons spent with the team, having joined in the summer of 2022 from Al-Ittihad. During his time with Neom, Hegazi contributed to the team's journey towards promotion to the Saudi Pro League, before his retirement opened the door for a new beginning in the administrative field.
