Hossam Hassan: Egypt's World Cup Absence Will Not Happen Again
Hossam Hassan, the head coach of the Egyptian national team, has pledged that the Pharaohs will not repeat the scenario of missing out on the World Cup in the future. This promise comes as he aims to build on the historic achievement he led the team to in the 2026 World Cup, where they advanced past the group stage and eliminated Australia, before a controversial exit in the Round of 16 against Argentina with a score of 3-2.
Hossam stated on ON E channel: "The last 12 minutes of the Argentina match? The referee's decisions, including unjust yellow cards and a missed penalty, put the players under immense pressure, especially with the injuries we faced. I don't blame the players even if they made individual mistakes in positioning."
He added, "I entered the locker room after the Argentina match and was talking to myself because we were so close to winning. Then I went in with the board of the Football Association, thanked the players, and told them I was happy to coach them."
Hossam continued, "We must feel a positive concern for the future; what we achieved has raised the fans' ambitions, and they will not accept anything less. In the next phase, there will be new additions to the team to maintain our performance level despite injuries or any other issues."
He concluded, "Participating in the World Cup only four times in our history is unfortunate, and I promise you that during my time, I will not allow Egypt to miss the World Cup again."
