Hamada El Sherbini, a member of the Egyptian Football Association's board, revealed that there is an official intention within the federation to prepare a bid to host the Africa Cup of Nations 2028, emphasizing that the idea has gained significant interest following Egypt's historic participation in the 2026 World Cup.

El Sherbini stated during a radio interview on "Mega FM" that the federation is seriously considering organizing the continental tournament, viewing this step as a recognition of the Egyptian and Arab fans who supported the "Pharaohs" throughout their World Cup journey, which saw them reach the Round of 16 for the first time in history.

The Egyptian official noted that the federation is working in coordination with relevant authorities and political leadership to study the hosting file, confirming that Egypt has advanced infrastructure and modern sports facilities that qualify it to host major tournaments, whether the Africa Cup of Nations, the World Cup, or the Futsal World Cup, but the current priority is focused on advancing the bid for "AFCON 2028."

He added that the project to host the tournament was part of discussions within the federation's board, given the belief in the capability of Egyptian stadiums and sports facilities to organize an event of this magnitude according to the highest standards.

In another aspect, El Sherbini revealed that the Egyptian federation has developed a comprehensive program to enhance national football following a positive performance in the 2026 World Cup, which includes a special plan to monitor and attract dual nationality players, in coordination with head coach Hossam Hassan, aiming to strengthen the national team with new talents.

He confirmed that the federation aims to replicate the experience of Haitham Hassan with other players, explaining that several names are currently being monitored in preparation for completing their integration into the Egyptian national team in the upcoming period.

The board member also emphasized that Mohamed Salah will remain one of the main pillars of the national team in the coming years, expressing confidence in the captain of the "Pharaohs" continuing with the team until the 2030 World Cup, as part of a long-term project aimed at further developing Egyptian football and achieving more accomplishments.

The Egyptian national team exited the 2026 World Cup in the Round of 16 after losing to Argentina 3-2, marking their first time reaching this stage, before the "Pharaohs" delegation received an official welcome and honor from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
