Mustafa Shobeir: Bono is One of the Best Goalkeepers in Arab History

Mustafa Shobeir, the goalkeeper for Al Ahly and the Egyptian national team, praised his Moroccan counterpart Yassine Bono, noting that they are in constant communication. He expressed that it is 'nice' to be compared to Bono, describing him as a 'great goalkeeper.' Shobeir stated on the program 'Al Hikaya' on MBC Masr with host Amr Adib, in response to a question about the differences between him and the Moroccan goalkeeper: 'Bono is really great, a very respectable personality. He and I are in constant contact; he sent me a message after the Argentina match, and I spoke with him after the game where he saved a penalty while standing (the Netherlands match). I told him I had never seen a goalkeeper save a penalty while standing, but it’s a unique style that he deserves credit for.' Shobeir added, 'Bono is one of the best goalkeepers to have come in Arab history. He is a great goalkeeper who turned professional at an early age, which has made a significant difference for him and for Morocco.' Regarding the comparison between them, the Egyptian goalkeeper said, 'It’s natural to have comparisons, and it’s nice to be compared to Yassine Bono. The man has played at high levels, and I respect him very much on a personal level; he is indeed a very great goalkeeper.' Both goalkeepers shone in the 2026 World Cup, with Shobeir leading Egypt to the Round of 16 for the first time in history, while Bono helped Morocco reach the quarter-finals, continuing a successful journey after guiding the 'Atlas Lions' to the semi-finals in the previous edition.
