Chelsea Signs Giovanni Quinda from Sporting Lisbon
Chelsea has officially announced the signing of Portuguese winger Giovanni Quinda from Sporting Lisbon, with a contract extending until the summer of 2034. The deal cost the Blues £44 million.
At just 19 years old, Quinda is regarded as one of the brightest emerging talents in European football, having played a crucial role in Sporting Lisbon's double triumph in the Portuguese league and cup last season. He also won the Best Young Player award in the Portuguese league for 2025.
After signing the contracts, the player stated: "I am very happy to be here. Chelsea is a great team, and I am excited to play at Stamford Bridge. The club has shown confidence in young players like me, and I am proud to join this club."
He added: "I look forward to working with my teammates and coach Xabi Alonso. I am a hardworking person and love to help my team, and I want to be known for my positive mentality and giving everything I have to help the club win titles."
Quinda has set several records with Sporting, becoming the youngest player to score for the club in his first season. He played 54 matches across all competitions during the double-winning season and also holds the record for the youngest Portuguese player to score in the UEFA Champions League.
Recently, the player represented the Portugal U21 team and was selected for the tournament's team at the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, further solidifying his status as one of the most promising talents in European football.
