Former Dortmund Chief: Haaland to Play for Real Madrid
Hans-Joachim Watzke, former CEO of Borussia Dortmund, confirmed that Norwegian star Erling Haaland does not hide his affection for Real Madrid, predicting he will don the royal club's jersey in the next few years, despite currently being with Manchester City.
Watzke stated in an interview with Spanish newspaper AS: "Erling loves Real Madrid and does not hide it. I believe he will play there in two or three years, but not now. His time will come later."
He concluded by indicating that the player's future is open to all possibilities, saying: "Haaland has not committed to any other club, as his father has previously confirmed."
Watzke's comments come at a time when the Norwegian forward is enjoying an exceptional period, having led his national team to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup and scored 7 goals so far, making him one of the top contenders for the tournament's golden boot.
Haaland has also drawn significant attention after leading Norway to eliminate Brazil in the Round of 16, with many considering his physical strength and finishing ability as key factors in Norway's success.
Although Manchester City denies the existence of a release clause in the player's contract, reports suggest that his agent prefers to give Haaland the freedom to choose his future at the right time, keeping the dream of a transfer to Real Madrid alive.
It is worth noting that Real Madrid has been tracking Haaland since he was a 16-year-old player at Norwegian club Molde, before moving to Red Bull Salzburg and then Borussia Dortmund, making him one of the world's most valuable players today, with a market value nearing €200 million.
