Wissa Leads Democratic Congo to Qualify for the Round of 32 in the World Cup

The Democratic Republic of the Congo national team secured its qualification to the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup after achieving a valuable 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in the match that brought them together in the third round of the group stage.

The Uzbekistan national team started the match strongly, opening the scoring early in the tenth minute through Eldor Shomurodov, ending the first half with a one-goal lead.

In the second half, the Democratic Republic of Congo team managed to get back into the match after Yoane Wissa scored the equalizing goal from a penalty in the 68th minute, before Fiston Mayele secured the winning goal in the 78th minute.

The third goal also came from Yoane Wissa in the 90+1 minute, leading his national team to a valuable victory.

With this victory, the Democratic Republic of Congo's team increased their tally to 4 points, placing them third in Group Eleven's standings, securing a spot in the round of 32 to face the England team. Meanwhile, Uzbekistan's team remained in fourth and last place with no points, thus exiting the tournament.
