Uruguayan Federation Cancels Private Plane After Early World Cup Exit
The Uruguayan Football Association decided to cancel the private plane trip that was arranged to bring the national team back to the country, following their early exit from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
According to media reports, the national team players and the coaching staff will return individually on commercial flights, in a move that reflects the great disappointment following one of Uruguay's worst performances in the history of the tournament.
The Uruguay national team exited the World Cup without securing any victories, after drawing with Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, before losing to Spain by a single goal, finishing last in their group and becoming the only team from the South American Confederation to fail to reach the knockout stages.
The decision came after a tournament that also experienced logistical disruptions for the team, as the Uruguayan delegation faced delays and cancellations of their private flights due to administrative issues related to flight permits, before they were later able to travel to the United States.
