Atletico Madrid Director: Alvarez is Not for Sale, and We Will File a Complaint Against Barcelona
The Spanish club Atletico Madrid responded to the controversy surrounding statements by Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, in which he hinted at his desire to leave and fulfill his 'dream' of moving to another club.
The club's CEO, Miguel Angel Gil Marin, said: 'Our responsibility is to defend the interests of Atletico Madrid, and for this reason, we will file a complaint to FIFA against Barcelona for negotiating with a player who has a valid contract during the protected period.'
The executive also expressed his dissatisfaction with the player's statements, saying: 'I regret what he said, it was not the right day for those statements, it was Messi and the Argentine national team's day, not Julian's day.'
He added: 'Julian has a dream, and Atletico fans have dreams too. He has spoken with us and knows our position well, we are clear: the club does not want to sell the player. We are very proud of him because he is an important player for us.'
In a direct attack on Barcelona, he concluded: 'Barcelona does not respect us, they think we are weak or can be bypassed. But what they show is a style that reflects them. They are misleading the player, the media, and the fans too.'
He pointed out that Alvarez's contract extends until 2030, and the club adheres to a massive release clause of 500 million euros, confirming that the player is not for sale in any way.
Alvarez moved to Atletico Madrid two years ago from Manchester City, and during his career with the team, he succeeded in scoring 49 goals in 106 matches in various competitions.
