New Zealand Goalkeeper: Egypt Has Many Threats and We Will Not Focus Only on Salah
Max Crocombe, the goalkeeper for the New Zealand national team, confirmed that the Egyptian team possesses many threats, indicating that his team will not focus on just one player for this reason.
The New Zealand team will meet Egypt next Monday morning in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
Krocombe said in statements to the New Zealand newspaper Stuff: "Mohamed Salah is one of the best forwards in the world of football, and we know him well and have followed him for many years, but in international football, you cannot focus excessively on one player."
He added, "Egypt has many threats in various positions on the field, so we will not isolate a specific player, despite our awareness of their capabilities."
The New Zealand goalkeeper spoke about his feelings after being chosen as a starter in the World Cup, explaining: "When the lineup is announced and you find your name in it, you feel happy. But for a goalkeeper, there's no time to over-celebrate because you have a task to accomplish, and that's my primary focus."
"After the tournament ends, you might look back and feel proud, but during the competitions, you try not to get swept away by the grandeur of the event, instead focusing on performing your job as best as possible."
