Marseille Responds to UEFA Sanction and Confirms Commitment to Financial Conditions
Olympique de Marseille issued an official response to the sanction imposed on it by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), which relates to non-compliance with previous financial agreements, granting it a grace period of one year with restrictions and a financial fine.
According to the 'Foot Mercato' website, UEFA had hinted at the possibility of excluding the club from European competitions before ultimately deciding to give it an additional chance, alongside imposing a financial fine of 10 million euros and restricting its A-list in the Europa League for the 2026/2027 season.
The decision comes in light of the economic circumstances the club has been through, especially the losses associated with the French football broadcasting rights crisis, which affected a number of clubs.
In an official statement, club sources quoted Olympique de Marseille as saying: 'Olympique de Marseille takes note of today's decision from the UEFA Club Financial Control Body. This decision allows the club and its fans to participate in the Europa League for the 2026/2027 season.'
The statement added: 'This decision also serves as a reminder of the responsibility placed upon us, as it includes significant requirements and fully obliges the club. We will continue the necessary efforts to respect all our commitments and respond to the conditions set by UEFA.'
The club concluded its statement by saying: 'Olympique de Marseille remains committed to continuing its development on strong and sustainable sporting, economic, and financial foundations,' confirming its ongoing work to fully comply with UEFA's requirements during the upcoming period.
