Real Madrid Demands UEFA to Resume Disciplinary Proceedings in Negreira Case
Real Madrid Club announced in an official statement published today, Wednesday, that it has submitted a memorandum to the Union of European Football Associations addressed to its disciplinary bodies, within the framework of what is known as the Negreira case.
The club clarified in its statement that it informed UEFA of the existence of evidence it described as significant, asserting that it strongly reinforces the known indicators since the beginning of the case regarding prolonged and non-transparent payments lacking any verifiable justification, made by Barcelona Club to José María Enríquez Negreira, the former Vice President of the Technical Committee of Referees in the Royal Spanish Football Federation, through multiple structures and companies.
The club added, through its official statement, that it urged UEFA to immediately resume the disciplinary proceedings it had previously initiated, considering that the continuation of this situation for a long period is unacceptable, due to the severe damage it causes to the credibility of football, its institutions, and those responsible for it. It also called for a firm, deterrent, and immediate response at the sports level, independently of the ongoing judicial proceedings.
Real Madrid pointed out that it requests UEFA, within its independent powers, to take appropriate disciplinary and corrective measures to ensure the integrity, transparency, and proper conduct of competitions, emphasizing that this should not replace the role of competent judicial authorities or preempt any criminal characterization of the facts.
The club stressed that it will continue, as a private claimant in the ongoing criminal proceedings, to take all necessary legal actions during various litigation stages, as it has done since the beginning of the case.
Real Madrid concluded its statement by affirming its commitment to defending the fundamental values of sports and continuing to support all necessary actions to ensure that such incidents do not go unpunished.
