Real Madrid Continues Interest in Signing Schlotterbeck

Real Madrid continues its efforts to strengthen its squad in preparation for the next season, with a particular focus on bolstering the defense line, after Portuguese coach José Mourinho has already secured the signing of Ibrahima Konaté, but he still demands the recruitment of a new center-back.

The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that German defender Nico Schlotterbeck has become one of the leading candidates to join Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, given the great confidence he enjoys with Mourinho.

Schlotterbeck is 26 years old and has been linked with Real Madrid for some time, and his presence has continued among the club's options despite recently renewing his contract with Borussia Dortmund. The newspaper clarified that the player still has a chance to leave the German club this summer.

The same source added that Schlotterbeck's new contract includes a clause allowing him to leave for a number of clubs, including Real Madrid, for an amount ranging between 50 and 60 million euros, and this condition will become effective starting from the summer transfer market.

Real Madrid's interest is not limited to the German defender alone, as the club continues to study other options to strengthen the backline. However, Schlotterbeck is considered the most cost-effective option among the names currently on the management's table.

The name of Thomas Araujo, Benfica's defender, also stands out among the candidates to move to the royal club. The Portuguese player is admired by Mourinho, who has previously worked with him and hopes to replicate the experience at Real Madrid. However, the main obstacle is Benfica's insistence on receiving 80 million euros, the amount specified in the player's release clause, making the deal more complicated compared to the Schlotterbeck option.
