Fahd Al-Mufarrej, the executive director of the Saudi national team, clarified the details of the exclusion of the duo Zakaria Hawsawi and Saleh Abu Al-Shamat from the Green Falcons' squad participating in the 2026 World Cup.

Al-Mufrej confirmed that the decision to exclude was made solely for technical reasons, emphasizing that there is no connection between the players' exclusion and disciplinary or behavioral issues.

He pointed out that the selection was made according to the vision of the coaching staff led by the Greek coach Georgios Donis, who finalized the list based on the team's needs.

He added that Hawsawi and Abu Al-Shamat are committed members within the ranks of the Green team, and that the decision does not detract from their level or what they have contributed during the past period.

Denis made some changes to the final Saudi national team roster before the start of the World Cup, aiming to achieve the best possible lineup.

The Green team is preparing to participate in the world championship following the conclusion of its preparatory program, which ended with a friendly match against Senegal that resulted in a goalless draw.

The Saudi national team will begin its journey in the 2026 World Cup by facing Uruguay, as part of Group H, which also includes Spain and Cape Verde.
