Van Hecke Agrees Personal Terms with Tottenham

Monday 08-06-2026
Tottenham Hotspur is close to securing one of its major defensive deals this summer, having reached a full agreement on personal terms with Dutch defender Jan Paul van Hecke, a player for Brighton and the Netherlands national team.

Reports indicate that both parties have agreed on a long-term contract, while negotiations are currently focused between the two clubs to reach the final transfer value.

Van Hecke is considered one of the main targets for coach Roberto De Zerbi, who previously worked with the player during his time at Brighton, seeing him as a key component in the project to rebuild Tottenham's backline.

Despite the agreement with the player, the deal is still far from finalization, as Brighton has rejected both a first and a second offer from Tottenham, holding firm on a high valuation for the Dutch defender that could reach between £60 and £70 million.

Brighton's management has also confirmed interest from other clubs, adding complexity to the negotiations.

Van Hecke's contractual situation gives Tottenham some hope of reaching an agreement, as he has only one year left on his contract with Brighton, while the player seems open to taking on a new challenge and moving to North London.
