Alonso Requests Nkunku's Return to Chelsea

The name of French striker Christopher Nkunku has been linked with a possible return to Chelsea during the summer transfer window, amid new coach Xabi Alonso's plans to rebuild the team.

According to "CaughtOffside," Xabi Alonso has asked Chelsea's management to explore the possibility of re-signing Nkunku, the current AC Milan player, who is believed to be valued at around £35 million. The Spanish coach is set to officially begin his duties on July 1, 2026, after signing a four-year contract.

Nkunku left Chelsea after an experience that did not meet expectations, following his move from Leipzig in 2023 for £52 million. He struggled with injuries and was unable to consistently establish himself within the team.

Reports stated that the player scored 6 goals and provided two assists during the 2025/2026 season with Milan, with the possibility that the Italian club might be open to selling him for a suitable financial offer.

Alonso believes that Nkunku possesses great tactical flexibility, as he can play as a playmaker, second striker, winger, or false nine, which aligns with his style that relies on smart movement in the forward line.
