The Spanish Government Supports Camp Nou's Bid to Host the 2029 Champions League Final
The Spanish Cabinet announced its official support for the candidacy of the new Spotify Camp Nou stadium to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League final, as part of a plan aimed at enhancing Spain's status in organizing major continental and international sporting events.
The Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo' reported that the decision came during a Cabinet meeting, based on a proposal from the Minister of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports, and at the request of the Spanish Football Federation, to support the candidacy of the cities of Barcelona and Bilbao to host the men's and women's Champions League finals.
The report explained that Barcelona is seeking to host the men's Champions League final in 2029 at the newly renovated Spotify Camp Nou, while Bilbao aims to organize the women's Champions League final in 2028 at the San Mamés stadium.
Through this support, the Spanish government confirmed its commitment to continue hosting major sporting tournaments, given their sporting, economic, and tourist importance, in addition to their role in enhancing Spain's image internationally.
The source pointed out that the Metropolitano Stadium will be a prior stop before the Camp Nou bid, as it has been decided to host the UEFA Champions League final in the 2026/2027 season.
The newspaper also added that the San Mamés stadium has significant experience in organizing major matches, having hosted the women's Champions League final in 2024, followed by the men's Europa League final the following year.
