Barcelona continues its efforts to strengthen the striker position, as the sports management, led by Deco, seeks to choose the most suitable replacement for the Polish star Robert Lewandowski in the coming period.

The Spanish newspaper "Sport" confirmed that Brazilian Joao Pedro considers Barcelona his first choice, ahead of other offers, as he shows a clear desire to wear the Catalan team's jersey.

The newspaper explained that Deco, the sporting director of Barcelona, is working directly with coach Hans Flick to prepare a list of several names for the striker position, headed by Joao Pedro and the Argentine Julian Alvarez, along with other options proposed to replace Lewandowski.

The same source added that Deco has been in contact with João Pedro's circle on several occasions over the past weeks, the latest being a meeting in London last Monday, to assess his readiness to join Barcelona. The player expressed great enthusiasm for the idea.

João Pedro is having an outstanding season with Chelsea, having scored 20 goals and provided 9 assists, making him a primary target on Barcelona's offensive list.

The report indicated that the player is not affected by Xabi Alonso's arrival to coach Chelsea, as Xabi Alonso's influence has not changed the striker's desire to move to Barcelona when the Catalan club begins its official steps in negotiations.

The newspaper also clarified that Barcelona has not yet opened direct negotiations with Chelsea, fearing an increase in the deal's value, which currently ranges between 80 and 100 million euros.

The report added that João Pedro's absence from the 2026 World Cup could accelerate the negotiation process between the parties, without leading to an increase in his market value as the English club had hoped.

The player's future remains open, although his clear preference leans towards Barcelona, while Chelsea holds a long-term contract with the player that extends until June 2033.
