Spanish Tax Agency Rules Out Evidence of Sports Corruption in the Negreira Case

Tuesday 19-05-2026
A 2022 report by the Spanish Tax Agency confirmed the absence of any evidence of sports corruption in what is known as the Negreira case, including no proof of payments to referees or attempts to influence match results.

The head of the CENAFE Center, Miguel Galán, stated that he published the full report issued by the tax authority, which explicitly denies any payments from FC Barcelona to referees and rules out that the amounts paid to José María Enríquez Negreira were related to influencing the course or results of the competition.

According to the text of the Spanish Tax Agency report, as stated, it was not proven in this procedure that services were provided by the taxpayer, such as knowing confidential information about referee standards or appointments or anything similar, nor was it proven that it was possible to influence results.

The report added that there is no evidence of a financial relationship linking the club to the refereeing system, clearly confirming that there were no payments to any referee, noting that all outgoing financial transfers were verified without finding anything to support the hypothesis of influencing match results.
