Barcelona Cautious About Ferran Torres' Participation Before World Cup

Tuesday 19-05-2026
Barcelona prefers to handle Ferran Torres' physical condition with complete caution during the current days, after the Spanish forward suffered muscle fatigue in the back of his left leg, prompting the technical staff to exclude him from the recent match against Real Betis in the Spanish League.

The Spanish newspaper 'Sport' reported that Ferran Torres watched the Betis match from the stands and will also not participate in the upcoming match against Valencia, as the club decided not to risk him with the World Cup 2026 approaching.

Barcelona's position comes after Fermín López's recent injury during the Betis match, which led the technical staff, led by Hans Flick, to prefer protecting players who suffer from physical fatigue, especially with the Spanish League title already secured.

The newspaper added that Ferran Torres had a strong season with Barcelona despite playing as a central forward, a position different from his primary role on the wing. Flick relied heavily on him for pressing and offensive movements throughout the season, which led to evident physical fatigue in recent weeks.

The Spanish international ended the season with 21 goals for Barcelona, continuing to deliver impressive performances before his anticipated inclusion in the Spanish national team's squad for the World Cup scheduled to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
