Mourinho Targets Rashford for Real Madrid

Tuesday 19-05-2026
The Portuguese coach José Mourinho is aiming to sign the English player Marcus Rashford during the upcoming transfer window if he takes over as the coach of Real Madrid at the start of the new season, according to "The Independent" newspaper.

Mourinho is nearing a return to Real Madrid after many years, following a season in which the team failed to win any titles, alongside the conclusion of Xabi Alonso's stint and the unsuccessful experience with Álvaro Arbeloa. This has prompted the club's management to seek a new project under the leadership of the Portuguese coach.

The British newspaper indicated that Mourinho has placed Rashford on the list of players he wishes to bring to Real Madrid, taking advantage of the previous relationship he had with the player during his time coaching Manchester United. He believes that the English winger possesses the qualities the team needs on an offensive level.

Mourinho believes that Rashford will be an important addition to a squad he aims to make more competitive and deep in all positions. The deal could also be a blow to Barcelona, given the player's impressive performance with the Catalan team this season.

The report emphasized that Rashford is currently only considering continuing with Barcelona, after having a good season under the leadership of Hans Flick, during which he played 48 matches, scored 14 goals, and provided 14 assists.

Barcelona has the option to purchase the player, who is on loan from Manchester United, for around 30 million euros. However, the management has not yet made a final decision, despite the coaching staff and sports management being convinced of the importance of his continued presence in the team.

Rashford's future is also linked to Barcelona's ability to adhere to financial fair play rules, along with the club's moves in the transfer market, especially since the team is looking for a striker, a central defender, and a new winger before the start of the next season.
