Bosnia is the First Team to Announce its Squad for the World Cup
The Bosnian Football Association announced the final squad for the "Dragons" national team participating in the 2026 World Cup finals, which are set to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The list witnessed a historic event with the presence of the veteran leader Edin Džeko, the Schalke striker, who will surpass the age of forty by the time of the tournament.
With his anticipated participation, Dzeko will join an exclusive list of players who have competed in the World Cup at the age of forty or older. Cameroon's Roger Milla is the only outfield player who previously achieved this feat in the 1994 World Cup, while the list includes six goalkeepers, most notably Egypt's Essam El-Hadary, who holds the record at 45 years old.
The 2026 World Cup is also expected to feature the legends Cristiano Ronaldo (41 years old) and Luka Modric (40 years old) with the national teams of Portugal and Croatia.
Džeko played a pivotal role in his country's qualification for the second time in its history, scoring his 73rd international goal in the playoff semi-final against Wales, before Bosnia ousted Italy in the final via penalty shootout. It is worth noting that Džeko currently has 148 international matches and is his country's all-time top scorer. He and Sead Kolašinac are the only remaining players from the squad that last participated in the 2014 World Cup.
Bosnia is the first team to announce its final squad for the tournament, and the selections under the leadership of coach Sergej Barbarez are as follows:
