Bastoni's Transfer Chances to Barcelona Decline
Wednesday 06-05-2026
Barcelona continues to explore several options to strengthen the center-back position in the upcoming transfer market, despite the current roster being complete with players such as Pau Cubarsi, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia, and Gerard Martin, in addition to the injured Andreas Christensen.

According to the Spanish newspaper 'Mundo Deportivo', Alessandro Bastoni is at the forefront of the names the club is considering to bolster the defense, as the player has shown enthusiasm for joining Barcelona since the first contact in January.

Barcelona also offered the player a five-year contract, which he agreed to in mid-April. However, completing the deal was contingent on the approval of coach Hans Flick, leading to a delay in finalizing the decision as they await a meeting between sporting director Deco and the technical staff to finalize planning for the next season.

The technical staff sees the necessity of strengthening the center-back position with a player who has high speed, due to the playing style that relies on advancing the defensive line, which opens the door to considering other names that do not necessarily have to be in the left center-back position.

The Italian player continues to wait for an official move from Barcelona to make an offer to Inter Milan to start negotiations, while the Italian club has shown reluctance to part with one of its key pillars.

According to the newspaper, the player agreed to the offer since mid-April but has started to feel the long wait, emphasizing that his decision is primarily linked to gaining full confidence from the coach. Otherwise, he is prepared to stay at Inter, which he considers his primary club, while remaining open to the option of transferring to Barcelona only.
