Oblak: We Want to Win the Champions League at Our Stadium Next Season
Atlético Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak expressed great disappointment after his team was eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal, stating that the team was close to reaching the final but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
Oblak said, "We are all very disappointed; we had a great opportunity and we didn't take advantage of it."
He added: "I think in the second half we did many good things to push the match in the other direction. It didn't work out, we lacked a bit of luck, and the truth is we are disappointed, and it's hard to say more than that."
He continued: "We were very close to reaching the final. The team is relatively new, young, and without much experience in this competition, but they performed well and I am very proud of them. Over the past two years, I think we've changed 15 players, it's a very new team and it's not easy to reach this stage. But that's not enough. We didn't just want to play in the semi-final, we wanted to win the Champions League, so we are disappointed."
"The positive aspect is that the team has a future. The players are growing and giving their all for this emblem, and that is what matters most. I hope the title comes next year when the tournament is played in Madrid at our stadium; it would be something special for everyone. It can happen."
