Chevalier Collapses in Paris: From Donnarumma's Successor to Out of Consideration
Tuesday 28-04-2026
The French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier entered his season with Paris Saint-Germain amid high expectations, after being introduced as the successor to the Italian star Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The beginning was promising, as he won an early title and saved a penalty in the UEFA Super Cup final against Tottenham, which reinforced his image as the "future" goalkeeper for both the club and the national team.

However, things turned quickly within a few months, as Chevalier lost his starting position to the Russian Matvey Safonov, and his role diminished significantly to the point where he was left out of the lineup in most matches. He hasn't played for three months, even during rotation periods implemented by coach Luis Enrique.

The goalkeeper's decline was not limited to the club but extended to the French national team, where he lost his position as the first substitute to Mike Maignan and became the third choice for coach Didier Deschamps. There is talk of the possible return of veteran Hugo Lloris, further complicating his chances before the World Cup.

With his performance declining and criticism increasing, along with some off-field controversies, it seems that Chevalier's future in Paris is under threat. Reports indicate that he is seriously considering leaving during the summer transfer window, seeking a fresh start away from the pressures and constant comparisons with Donnarumma.
