Deschamps: We Need Everyone, and This Changed the Course of the Match
Didier Deschamps, the coach of the French national team, praised the performance of some of his players during the 3-1 victory over Senegal in the opening match of the Roosters' campaign in the 2026 World Cup, held at MetLife Stadium.
Deschamps said in his post-match interview: "It's reassuring for us. There were some tensions at the beginning, and we faced a good team, but then we regained control and performed better."
He added: "The positional changes between Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise significantly contributed to altering the course of the match, and Bradley Barcola was extremely influential after coming on, posing a great threat to the opponent."
He continued: "Winning the first match is always important, not decisive, but it gives us a good feeling, and we will enjoy this victory."
Regarding the possibility of Barcola starting in the next match, he concluded: "There are many players who can start matches, like Rayan Cherki, even though he joined late. We need everyone, and what Barcola has provided and what others will offer will be very important for us during the tournament."
