Italian press reports, most notably from 'Sky Sport Italia', revealed that Croatian star Luka Modric, a player for AC Milan, will undergo surgery in the coming hours after the injury he sustained during the match against Juventus in the Italian league.

Modric suffered a severe injury due to an aerial collision with Italian international Manuel Locatelli during the second half of the match, which ended in a 0-0 draw at San Siro, resulting in a fracture of the left cheekbone.

According to 'Sky Sport Italia', the player underwent medical examinations on Monday morning, which confirmed the need for surgical intervention to treat the injury, with the operation to be conducted soon.

The player's status for returning to participate with Milan in the remaining matches of the current season in the Italian league has not yet been determined, as the team will face Sassuolo, then Atalanta, before meeting Genoa, and concluding its matches against Cagliari.

However, some Croatian press reports indicated that the 40-year-old Croatian star's season with Milan has ended.

Modric is nearing the end of his contract with Milan, having joined on a one-year deal at the start of the 2025/2026 season, with an option to extend the contract for an additional period.
