Duration of Mamardashvili's Absence After Injury in the Merseyside Derby
Monday 20-04-2026
The Athletic newspaper confirmed that the injury of Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is not as serious as initially thought, but he will be absent from the field for no less than two weeks.

The Georgian goalkeeper suffered a deep knee wound during a collision with Everton striker Beto in the Merseyside derby, which ended with Liverpool winning 2-1, before leaving the hospital and beginning the recovery phase.

According to the report, his absence may range from two to four weeks depending on the development of his condition, without a specific return date yet.

Mamardashvili reassured fans with a message on his Instagram account, confirming that he is in good condition and will return soon.

This comes in light of the absence of first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker, prompting coach Arne Slot to rely on third-choice goalkeeper Fredrik Wydman, with expectations of his continued participation in upcoming matches.

Despite the initial concern, the newspaper indicates that Mamardashvili's injury is less severe than expected, providing Liverpool some reassurance at this stage of the season.
