Carrick: We Have an Important Match Ahead, and These Decisions Have Left Us Frustrated
Friday 17-04-2026
Manchester United coach Michael Carrick appeared at a press conference to discuss tomorrow's match against Chelsea in the 33rd round of the English Premier League, at Stamford Bridge.

The coach said about Lisandro Martinez's expulsion in the last round: "We are disappointed. We did not agree with the decision. My feelings were clear after the match, and I still feel the same way. It is what it is; we've faced some decisions, but we have to accept them and move forward."

He added about the additional one-match suspension faced by Harry Maguire after being sent off against Bournemouth: "There isn't much to respond with. We are very disappointed, of course. We've had several reasons to feel frustrated with these situations in recent weeks, but we have to move forward. Decisions have been made, which is frustrating for us in many ways, but we have to move on, and that's what we will do."

Regarding the young defender Aidan Heaven, he said: "Aidan is in a good position. He is still young and in the early stages of his career, so it's natural for him to play some matches and not participate in others. He is training very well, improving, and listening. This is normal for a defender of his age, and he is ahead of the expected schedule in terms of the number of matches he has played. He trained with the England team a few weeks ago and performed well. He is definitely excited for the match."

He continued about the condition of Patrick Dorgu and Kobbie Mainoo: "Patrick is doing well, recovering well, and is on the right track, but he hasn't returned to training with us yet. He is back on the field, which is positive, and he is performing well. Kobbie has done some simple things, and we are working on getting him ready. A decision will be made regarding him."

Regarding the Chelsea match, he said: "It's an important game. We are in a good position in the league and want to build on that. It's always a tough stadium, and we've had difficult matches there. Most of the time, they were good matches in terms of what they offer; they have the feel of a real and big match, so we will be ready for that. We have prepared well and will take confidence from what we've built. We didn't get the result we wanted against Leeds, but the character we showed should be carried into this match with an extra player, and we should take advantage of it."

Regarding Mason Mount: "There is definitely a place for him in my tactical plans, without a doubt. He is currently working on regaining his fitness and achieving that. Mason has a good future here, so I'm not worried about him."

In his concluding remarks, Carrick spoke about the future of the duo Aiden Heaven and Lenny Euro in the team's defense: "When it comes to predicting the future, you have to be cautious. We are happy to have them, and considering their ages, playing in the Premier League with a big club is not something that happens all the time. It's a position that is not easy to play at a young age. What the players have shown, with different appearances at different times, and the experience and level they have reached now, is very good. The future is the future, and we are giving them the opportunity to develop, whether in training, off the field, or through the coaching staff and advice, and of course, playing minutes as well. Both are in a very good position currently, and perhaps they will deliver the level we hope for from defenders their age."
