Absence of El-Khatib from Al-Ahly's Emergency Meeting
Wednesday 15-04-2026
Mahmoud El Khatib, the president of Al Ahly Club, is absent from the emergency board meeting held today, Wednesday, with Yassin Mansour presiding over the session in his place.

The meeting is convened to discuss several important issues related to the club's crisis with the Egyptian Football Association, primarily focusing on three main issues through which the council aims to respond to recent events.

Three main files on the table.

The first issue concerns what the club perceives as referee Mahmoud Wafa's overstepping against Al Ahly players during the last match, without taking measures to restore their dignity.

As for the second issue, it concerns the cancellation of the hearing that was scheduled to take place and the refusal to recognize the Al Ahly delegation that attended, despite the club's insistence on its legal right to do so.

The third file, which is currently the most prominent, involves Oscar Ruiz's confirmation that the Football Association did not contact any foreign associations last season to bring in foreign referees for the summit match against Zamalek Club. This contradicts previous official correspondence received by Al Ahly.

Crisis details

The crisis escalated following the failure to hold the hearing session regarding the Ceramica Cleopatra match, as the Al Ahly delegation, led by Sayed Abdel Hafiz, left the federation's headquarters after failing to reach an agreement on the mechanism for listening to the video technology recordings.

Al-Ahly requested to review the conversations that took place between the on-field referee and the video assistant referee regarding a controversial incident, where a penalty was not awarded in the final moments of the match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

The club affirmed in its statement its insistence on its right to listen to those conversations, based on the announcement by the head of the referees' committee regarding the clubs' right to do so, in exchange for paying the fees, while demanding the disclosure of details to ensure transparency.

On the other hand, the federation clarified that access to video technology recordings is limited to specific members of the technical and administrative staff who were present in the technical area during the match.
