FIFA: Decision Not to Award Penalty to Al Ahly Against Ceramica is Correct
Wednesday 15-04-2026
The media personality Khaled Al-Ghandour confirmed that "FIFA" supported the validity of referee Mahmoud Wafa's decision not to award a penalty to Al-Ahly against Ceramica. This came after Oscar Ruiz, the head of the referees committee, presented the footage of Al-Ahly's play in the Ceramica match to the referees committee at "FIFA".

Al-Ghandour clarified on the "Stad Al-Mahwar" program that FIFA officials confirmed to Ruiz the correctness of canceling the penalty kick, emphasizing that the final decision rests with the on-field referee, while the role of video technology is limited to assistance only.

Ghandour stated that FIFA officials believe that reviewing VAR recordings will not change the outcome, as the authority lies with the on-field referee, especially since major tournaments are sometimes held without video technology in the first place.

He pointed out at the end of his speech that a malfunction in the VAR technology does not prevent the continuation of the match, as the referee simply informs both teams and the game continues as normal.
