The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) rejected the official complaint submitted by Barcelona against the refereeing in their match against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals. The Disciplinary Committee deemed the complaint "unacceptable," which increased the state of anger within the Catalan club.

The Catalan protest centered around a controversial moment in the 54th minute when Marc Pubill handled the ball inside the penalty area after a play restart from goalkeeper Juan Musso. Barcelona players demanded an immediate penalty, considering the situation clear and indisputable.

The club also criticized the performance of the video assistant referee (VAR), pointing out that referee Istvan Kovacs should have been alerted to review the incident, which Barcelona views as a "clear refereeing error" that affected the course of the match.

Although the aim of the complaint was not to change the outcome of the match but to obtain official acknowledgment of the error, UEFA's decision ended the legal proceedings of the case without alleviating the dissatisfaction of Barcelona's management and fans, who believe they were clearly wronged in one of the most important matches of the season.
