Guardiola: Facing Arsenal Will Be a Final for Us and Them, Respect for Them Is a Duty
Spanish Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, commented on narrowing the gap with Arsenal in the Premier League race, following a 3-0 victory over Chelsea.
Guardiola said during the press conference after the match: 'We will face a team that has lost only three matches out of 49, and not once in the Champions League.'
He added: 'Before the League Cup final, no one bet on us, and maybe now the situation is a little different, but I have great respect for Arsenal, for what they have achieved in recent years. I know the coach, the players, their quality, and how they compete in all circumstances, and this is our biggest task.'
He continued: 'Arsenal has been the best team in England, and even in Europe so far, the numbers confirm this. It is very difficult to beat them once, let alone twice in a few weeks.'
He went on: 'I would like to tell the fans: respect Arsenal a lot, they are an exceptional team, and join us from the first minute, because the players will give their utmost effort, as the Arsenal match will be a final, a final for us and them.'
He concluded his remarks by saying: 'What saves you in the Premier League is your style of play. In the Premier League, you always rely on your style of play, whereas in the Champions League it requires the goalkeeper to shine and the strikers to seize opportunities, and sometimes refereeing decisions that work in your favor.'
