Araujo: The Expulsion Affected the Match, But We Can Come Back
Thursday 09-04-2026
The Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo, a Barcelona player, expressed his sadness after the 2-0 defeat against Atlético Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals at Camp Nou, while also affirming that the team has the ability to turn the result around in the second leg.

Araujo said: "We tried, but we didn't succeed. In the second half, we came out stronger despite being outnumbered. We controlled the ball but couldn't score a goal. We are sad about the loss, but I believe we are capable of bouncing back."

He continued: "I didn't see the red card incident. This team has the ability to come back in the game, I am convinced of that. We've done it many times. It's difficult on their home ground, but if there's a team capable of doing it, it's us. We will go and look for them even on their own turf."

He added: "The sending off affected the match. We were creating chances, and Rashford had an opportunity. We could have scored, and that would have changed the course of the game. We tried, and there's nothing to blame the team for."

Araujo concluded his remarks by saying: "I think some players were more exhausted. It's good to have some of the injured players back, as this will help rejuvenate the team. We are ready for that; we must maintain a positive mindset and have them trust us."
